Scott Brown had been seeking to renegotiate his contract |
Hibernian midfielder Scott Brown has handed in a transfer request that has been immediately rejected by the club. The player informed the Edinburgh outfit immediately after the Easter Road side's 2-1 win over Dundee United.
Brown and his team-mate, Kevin Thomson, had been seeking to re-negotiate their contracts, but Hibs chairman Rod Petrie had refused to meet the players' agent.
A club spokesman said: "A transfer request was received. The manager has read it and the answer is no."
The spokesman said the Edinburgh side considered the matter to be "at an end".
The Old Firm and a host of English clubs are thought to be preparing offers for Brown in January.
Petrie had refused to meet the agent and insisted that the club would not break their wage structure.
It is believed that Hibs value the players, who recently signed long-term contracts, at 3m each.
The players' agent, Willie McKay, said on Friday that they were angry at the club's stance and that they felt they had been left "high and dry".
