Hereford manager John Trewick took the positives from their pre-season friendly home defeat by Bristol City.
The Bulls led through Lee Morris in the first half, Colin Skuse equalised after 62 minutes and Tristian Plummer got the winner for City close to the end.
Trewick told BBC Hereford and Worcester: "It's a game for fitness, it's game to look at players.
"There were a lot of plus points. I thought first half we did very well and we looked good going forward."
"I was pleased with our defending, we were throwing our bodies in the way and clearing the ball," he continued.
"Second half we gave them too much of the ball, but they are a good side and will be looking to get into the Premiership.
"We have to think about the quality of the opposition."
The Bulls included several trialists, including former Spurs player Jacques Maghoma, and Tomi Ameobi, the brother of the Newcastle striker Shola.
