Hereford United have completed the signing of former Luton Town central midfielder Stephen O'Leary on a one-year deal.

The 23-year-old has previously been loaned out to Tranmere Rovers.

"He's been with us for a couple of weeks and has played a couple of games," Bulls' boss Graham Turner told BBC Hereford & Worcester.

"One was against Team Bath and one against Villa reserves, so we're pleased to have him on board."

Turner has been working hard to bring in more new faces before the transfer window closes at midnight on Monday 1 September but he admitted there had been another setback this week.

"I thought I had got one definitely coming last weekend, but he has now chosen to go up and play in the Scottish Premier League for a decent club up there.

"I can understand that but it was one of those occasions when it was all lined up and he was going to come to us, but then something else emerged at the 11th hour."

But Turner insists he will continue to chase players right up to the deadline and may yet employ the loan system that worked so well for United last season.

"We are still working on it - the deadline has been extended until Monday for permanent transfers and then seven days after that we can start emergency loans should the need arise.

"We obviously need strengthening and we obviously need the boost in confidence that new faces can sometimes bring to those around them."
