Jefferies keen to keep hold of Driver

By Brian McLauchlin

Jim Jefferies is delighted that winger Andrew Driver is still a Hearts player after Burnley manager Brian Laws saw a £2.5m bid for the player turned down.

"I spoke with Andrew as I was a bit worried about him after the Burnley deal feel through.

"But he was in great spirits and very positive about what happened.

"I spoke with Brian Laws and told him if you want someone badly enough, then you have to pay the valuation we have on the player."

Driver is recovering from a knee operation but should be ready for the opening match of the season on 14 August against St Johnstone.

"He is very upbeat and has seen a big improvement in his injury in the last few days," added Jefferies.

"From a personal point of view I'm delighted he is still here and, no disrespect to Burnley, but if Andrew gets back to top form then there will be a lot bigger clubs looking at him."
