Nemec has scored four goals for Racing Genk since his 750,000 move
Hearts striking target Adam Nemec has joined German side Kaiserslautern.
The 23-year-old was with Racing Genk and Jambos boss Csaba Laszlo was keen to bring him to Tynecastle to bolster his attacking options.
Karol Csonto, the agent for the Slovakian international, told BBC Scotland: "Adam was interested in Hearts, but we could not agree a deal.
"He decided to move to Germany. He has signed a three-year deal with Kaiserslautern today."
Nemec had three years left to run of a four-year contract with Racing Genk, so Hearts would have had to pay the Belgian Jupiler League club a transfer fee.
Capped once for his country, he began his career with Dubnica before moving on to Slovak top-flight rivals ilina for three seasons, scoring 14 goals as they won the championship in 2007.
He then spent a season with Erzgebirge Aue in Germany's second tier before heading for Genk. He recently had a spell on trial with the club he has just joined.
Happily for Hearts, it appears their strained relationship with Genk surrounding the transfer of Mirsad Beslija to Tynecastle in 2006 was not a factor in Nemec's decision.
Hearts suspended instalments of the club-record £850,000 fee for the injury-plagued Bosnian winger because of a dispute between the clubs before paying the outstanding balance after Genk took the case to European football's governing body, Uefa.
Beslija went on to make only 14 appearances for Hearts before having his contract terminated in November.
Laszlo will now look elsewhere for a solution to his striking problems.
Last week, he signed David Witteveen, formerly of Red Bull Salzburg.
