Berra has attracted attention from home and abroad
Hearts have rejected a 2m offer from Wolverhampton Wanderers for Scotland defender Christophe Berra.
But Hearts are looking for no less than 3m for 23-year-old Berra and have rejected the approach from the Championship leaders.
Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey did not wish to be drawn on any bid but said: "It is not news that we have had a long-standing interest in the player.
"But we will not discuss transfers until they happen."
Wolves had a 1.5m bid rejected for the central defender, who has three international caps, in June.
However, Hearts have said that, in the current economic climate, they are prepared to listen to offers for even their best players.
Midfielder Michael Stewart is also being monitored by a club in Serie A.
And winger Andrew Driver is being tracked by clubs in England and on the Continent.
The Scottish Premier League club's manager, Csaba Lazslo, has already gone public in saying that Berra would be ideal for Italy's Serie A.
And, earlier this week, the defender was linked with a move to an unnamed club from the German Bundesliga.
