Hartlepool United director of sport Chris Turner has revealed striker Denis Behan will face a spell on the sidelines with an ankle injury.
The Irish striker was taken to hospital after Tuesday's defeat by Southampton with a suspected fracture.
"At a minimum it'll be six to eight weeks recovery with damage to the ankle ligaments so it's a blow to us," Turner told BBC Tees.
"I thought tonight he was back to his best, he harassed the centre-halves."
Behan is the second Pools striker in the space of four days to pick up an injury, after Behan's compatriot Colin Larkin pulled up with a hamstring strain in Saturday's 2-1 defeat by promotion hopefuls Huddersfield Town.
Behan formerly played for Cork City and joined Hartlepool during the summer having spent seven seasons at Turner's Cross.
Turner must also find a replacement for midfielder Richie Jones who was sent off at the end of Tuesday's game.
"It's a disappointment because it's a sending off he really shouldn't have got involved in.
"He's been booked once, he can't afford to do that and it's disappointing to have him miss a game."
