Hartlepool United caretaker manager Chris Turner has refused to rule himself out of the reckoning for the vacant manager role at Victoria Park.
However Turner, the club's director of sport, confessed the owners have made no decisions at this time.
"There's been no discussion since Danny left, we haven't decided which way we're going to go," he told BBC Tees.
"I have a position at the club and once again, we'll sit down and decide what my role will be further down the line."
The decision to appoint a new manager is expected to be delayed while Pools undergo a rigorous festive period with three games in eight days, including an FA Cup tie with Stoke at Victoria Park.
But Turner, aided by assistant boss Ian Butterworth is confident the duo can steer the club in the right direction in that time.
"There's enough experience in myself and Ian Butterworth to get us over the period of time and the games," he added.
"I read in the papers who's the favourite for the job but we haven't even advertised for the position yet.
"There'll be people out there who want this position at this club and once again we'll see who's available and decide whether it fits into our plans.
"There's no rush and there's no decision been made on any one person at all."
Turner was manager at Hartlepool between February 1999 and November 2002 before leaving to join Sheffield Wednesday and returned to the club as director of sport in 2006.
