Grimsby Town defenders Peter Bore and Rob Atkinson have rejected new deals at the club, reports BBC Radio Humberside.
Bore and Atkinson, 23, are out of contract at the end of the current season but the Mariners were hopeful of keeping them both at Blundell Park.
Meanwhile, the Blue Square Bet Premier side have failed in their bid to land Peterborough striker Liam Hatch.
The 28-year old is believed to have agreed to join before changing his mind and joining Darlington.
"[Bore & Atkinson] have been offered good contracts," said Grimsby manager Neil Woods.
"At this moment in time they've turned them down, which is their prerogative."
Former Barnsley centre-half Atkinson says he has received more than one offer from the club.
"They've offered me a couple of contracts but we couldn't come to an agreement. The ball's in Grimsby's court now so it's up to them."
Meanwhile, Woods will not confirm the identity of the player that has turned them down.
"I don't think that's right to the player or the club he's at. We had hoped to get somebody in and we thought we'd concluded a deal but that's fallen through.
"We have other targets that we're looking at and working on. I don't see wholesale names coming in or going out but there may be one or two," Woods added.
