Grimsby chairman John Fenty takes blame for relegation
Grimsby chairman apologises for relegation
Grimsby Town chairman John Fenty has accepted his share of the blame for his club's exit from the Football League.
The Mariners were relegated from League Two following defeat at Burton Albion on Saturday.
Fenty told BBC Look North: "I'm the man at the top. The board take decisions, but I take responsibility.
"We'll regroup - we'll be giving next season a good crack and we need funds sufficient to bounce back, and that's what we'll provide."
He added: "We choose the manager and the manager chooses the players and, between us, we weren't good enough and we have to take responsibility for that."
Grimsby's relegation marked the end of a 100-year stay in the Football League.
They were founding members of the second division in 1892. In 1910 they failed to be re-elected but were reinstated one year later.
In 1929 they were promoted into the top division for the first time, staying there for most of the 1930s before being relegated from the top flight for the final time in 1948.
