Grimsby Town have named youth-team coach Neil Woods as their new manager following the departure of Mike Newell.
Woods, 43, played more than 200 games for the Mariners and has been overseeing the youth set-up since 2003.
He had been in temporary charge of the club for the past month and saw off the challenge of Russell Slade who was thought to be one of the front-runners.
Previous manager Newell was sacked in October after a poor start to the League Two season.
"I'm delighted but I did take my time to throw my hat into the ring," said Woods.
"I've a lot of affection for the club. I've taken my time and I'm very confident we can turn it around."
