Grimsby hope to get Sweeney back

Peter Sweeney
Sweeney played in four wins, two draws and two defeats for Grimsby

Grimsby Town manager Mike Newell is hoping to lure Leeds midfielder Peter Sweeney back to the club.

The 24-year-old spent the end of last season on loan with the Mariners, playing eight times as the club avoided relegation from the Football League.

Newell said: "I've spoken to Sweens a few times and had a chat earlier this week, and he hasn't ruled anything out.

"Obviously midfield is a priority and Peter is certainly a player we'd like to bring in."

The former Millwall player has also had spells with Stoke, Yeovil and Walsall.
