Hessenthaler's Gillingham will start the new season against Cheltenham

Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler has signed two teenage strikers.

Andy White, 17, is a product of Reading's youth system, while 18-year-old Stefan Payne has been released by Fulham after one season.

"They're young and are no real risk to us but they could be a couple of gems," Hessenthaler told BBC Radio Kent.

"We'll bring them in and work with them and see how they develop. We don't know too much about them but there's no risk to it financially."

He added: "We've done our homework and Steve Wood - the ex-player who looks after the boys - is a good friend of mine and so in good faith we've brought them in.

"I believe we can work with these boys and they could be a couple of gems."
