Gillingham boss Mark Stimson will stay put

Gillingham manager Mark Stimson says he will not walk out on the club, despite an away defeat at Brentford which means Gills are without a win in eight games.

"I was brought up in the East End, you don't walk away from anything, you face it eye to eye and get on with it," Stimson told BBC Radio Kent."

"I've always said I'll do my best until the chairman tells me any different.

"He's the one who employed me. It's not happened yet, but, like I've been told, every manager is hired to be fired."

Gillingham's 4-0 defeat at Brentford was their 12th away from home in League One and means they still have not won away from home this season.

Meanwhile, Stimson will not be making an official complaint about being hit by an object as he walked to the dugout before the game at Griffin Park.

"I think it was a hot dog, it smelt a bit of onions when it hit me," said Stimson.

"It's all part of the fun isn't it? When I was a player I was spat at as well as having things thrown at me. It's all part and parcel of the game."
