King was Gillingham's player of the season for 2008/9

Gillingham defender Simon King may miss the whole of the season through injury, manager Mark Stimson has revealed.

King had surgery on his ankle after damaging it during a pre-season friendly against Bromley in July.

Gills boss Mark Stimson told BBC Radio Kent: "He's still way off fitness, he's been to see his specialist this week but it's going to be a long process.

"He certainly won't be fit by January. We hope he'll be back this season, but there's always a chance he won't."

King's injury was initially thought to be minor, but the 26-year-old was forced to undergo surgery on his ankle in September.
