Brandy keen to impress for Gills

Febian Brandy has had loan spells both at Swansea and Hereford

Gillingham's new loan striker Febian Brandy says League One football is far better for him right now than playing for Manchester United's reserves.

He has already had two loan spells in League One with Hereford and Swansea.

And the 20-year-old has now moved to Priestfield on a three-month loan to get more first team experience.

"Obviously at United at this stage I'm never going to be in front of Rooney, Berbatov, Owen or anyone that's there," Brandy told BBC Radio Kent.

"Reserve team football is competitive but, at my age, you need to be in a league where it's going to be more competitive, so I think a loan spell was the best for me.

"I scored a few goals at Hereford but, during my second loan spell at Swansea I didn't get many games, so it was frustrating but a good experience.

"I just want to play games and I want to impress. You've just got to go and treat it like it's your own club and give it 100 per cent."

Brandy is expected to make his debut for the Gills in Saturday's FA Cup first round tie against Southend.

Gillingham manager Mark Stimson told BBC Radio Kent: "Hopefully he can come here and help us get through to the next round of the Cup and move us up the league.

"He's up for the challenge and we're looking forward to him being here.

"We've got to make sure we play to his abilities, in to his feet and get the most out of him."

Brandy will be free to play in games up to and including the Gills' trip to Swindon Town on 16 January 2010.
