Welling's Day appointment blocked

Non League

Welling United have been forced to put the appointment of Jamie Day as their new manager on-hold.

The 30-year-old is under contract as a player for Ryman League Dartford, who are demanding compensation.

Dartford manager Tony Burman told BBC Radio Kent: "I don't like standing in people's way but it's nothing to do with Jamie Day or myself."

"But I don't think things have been done right by Welling United. Things have to be done properly."

Burman added: "At this moment in time he is contracted to Dartford football club and the powers that be will sort things out."

Meanwhile Barrie Hobbins, owner of Welling United, has been holding talks with Dartford and hopes Day can take charge for Saturday's game at Worcester.

Hobbins told BBC Radio Kent: "As he is under contract with Dartford it's their prerogative to stop him coming but we hope it doesn't come to that."
