Stimson led Gillingham back to League One last season
Gillingham manager Mark Stimson has said survival in League One is their sole aim for the new season.
His comments followed the weekend's 2-0 defeat by Blue Square South side Welling, their first pre-season loss.
"That might disappoint a few supporters but I live in the real world," Stimson told BBC Radio Kent.
"You can't get away from the fact that there's some big, good sides in that division [League Two]. For us to compete we've got to improve."
"I think we have [improved] this summer so far," he added. "Kevin Maher's been a good signing.
"I think to re-sign Andy Barcham is absolutely fantastic because I know there were teams higher than ourselves after him, and we're just trying to add one or two to that."
