Onuora will take temporary charge along with Mick Docherty |
Gillingham have placed assistant manager Mick Docherty and first-team coach Iffy Onuora in temporary charge following Ronnie Jepson's resignation. Jepson quit as boss on Sunday after the Gills fell to their fifth defeat from their first six games of the season.
Docherty joined the coaching staff soon after Jepson became boss in 2005.
Onuora, who was a fans' favourite as a player for the Gills, managed Swindon in 2005/06 and took up his coaching role at Priestfield in June 2007.
Meanwhile, Jepson insists he is leaving the club on good terms.
"You can go away from places, be bitter and twisted and sling mud," Jepson told BBC Radio Kent.
"But I'd like to thank the chairman (Paul Scally) for giving me the opportunity to manage a football club of the stature of Gillingham.
"I don't make excuses or hide behind anything - results haven't gone our way this season, but we've got the nucleus of a good squad."
