Gateshead chairman Graham Wood eyes play-offs surprise
Wood has seen Gateshead win their last five league games
Gateshead chairman Graham Wood believes the club has an outside chance of making a late run for the play-offs in the Blue Square Bet Premier.
The Tynesiders have won their last five games and despite being 12 points off the play-offs, have four games in hand on Fleetwood who occupy the final spot.
"We've got games in hand on seven teams above us," Wood told BBC Newcastle.
"If we win a few of our games in hand, it is not beyond the bounds of reality that we can reach the play-offs."
Wood added: "Our objective this season was a top-10 finish, and although we're not quite there yet, but I'm confident we will be up there."
Ian Bogie's side were 7-2 winners at Wrexham on Saturday, their biggest away win against a professional side.
Meanwhile Wood has also reacted to rumours that the club's proposed move to a purpose built football venue has been cancelled.
Gateshead were scheduled to leave the shared International Stadium that they rent from Gateshead Council in time for the 2011-12 season, but could now be forced to wait due to delays in vital paperwork.
"It certainly hasn't been shelved, the planning app has been almost completed for some time now, but we have recently encountered a bit of a delay relating to the tenants for the non-football space that we're building into the stadium," Wood said.
"However once that matter has been resolved, we can complete the last few sections of the application and proceed with the application which we hope will be resolved soon.
"It is still within the bounds of possibility, but it's getting very tight now, so we are anxious to resolve this little issue and move forward.
"We're working very hard, there's lots of movement but not as much progress as we'd like at the moment."
