Gateshead have signed Sunderland defender Michael Kay on a month-long loan deal.
Kay, 20, is a graduate of the Black Cats academy, and made his first-team debut in the 2-1 FA Cup defeat by Blackburn in February 2009.
"He has height and a bit of pace," Gateshead manager Ian Bogie told the club's website.
"He can play at right-back or in the centre of defence and is an England youth international."
Bogie continued: "He is also relishing the prospect of playing first-team football at Gateshead and will develop his career by playing here."
