Gateshead boss Ian Bogie expects further new arrivals following the addition of David Brown and David Dowson on non-contract terms.
The former Sunderland pair are training with the Tynesiders and Bogie is keen to assess further unattached players before the start of the season.
"We're trying to assemble a squad of 22 players," Bogie told BBC Newcastle.
"I'm being inundated by phone calls so there might be for trialists to come along and we'll look at them as well."
Bogie added: "David Dowson's come to the club just a week ago so I want to see more of him, likewise David Brown."
Dowson, 21, enjoyed loan spells at Chesterfield and Darlington during his time at the Stadium of Light but failed to make a first-team appearance.
Brown, 19, was a reserve team regular at Sunderland but also failed to make a full appearance for the club.
