Benjamin's form at Leicester earned him an England Under-21 cap
Gateshead are unlikely to offer a permanent contract to former Leicester City striker Trevor Benjamin.
The former Jamaica international, 30, has played for 21 clubs in his career, with 11 of those being on loan.
Tynesiders boss Ian Bogie told the Evening Chronicle: "If Trevor was 100% fit there is no doubt he'd be an asset, unfortunately he's carrying an injury.
"He lacked mobility and a bit of spring against Dunston and we aren't currently in a position to offer him anything."
Bogie did offer the striker, whose most recent club was Kidsgrove Athletic in the Unibond League, a glimmer of hope: "If he regains his fitness and we have not brought in a couple of strikers then we could revisit the situation."
Benjamin made his name with the Foxes in the Premier League, earning England Under-21 honours in his spell at Filbert Street.
Hereford were his last Football League club, releasing him in May 2008.
