Exeter City midfielder Matt Gill says there is no room for complacency on the club's return to the Football League.
The Grecians are preparing to face Darlington on 9 August, in what will be Exeter's first League Two match since they were relegated in 2003.
"No-one can rest on their laurels on what they did last year. It's a brand new season, everyone's got to prove themselves again.
"I think that's a healthy situation for a club," Gill told BBC Radio Devon.
"It's a very good squad. I think the gaffer's made two or three good signings and obviously time will tell who starts the first game."
City suffered their first pre-season defeat on Tuesday night, losing 2-1 at Blue Square Premier side Weymouth.
Matt Taylor gave Exeter the lead early on, but Anton Robinson equalised before Chris McPhee came up with an 88th-minute winner.
