Rodwell has risen through the England ranks to Under-21 level
Everton midfielder Jack Rodwell says he hopes to force his way into the England squad in the near future.
The 19-year-old is being tipped to get into Fabio Capello's squad ahead of Euro 2012 after England's poor showing at the World Cup.
"It's flattering obviously," Rodwell told BBC Radio Merseyside. "I'm only 19 and I've got a long way to go.
"If I keep proving myself at Premier League level, I'm sure it could come sooner rather than later."
Rodwell continued: "All I can focus on now is getting a good pre-season and a few games early doors under my belt and hopefully get a good run of games and you never what happens.
"I've played over 10 games for the Under-21s and it's good experience. Even in the Premier League it's good experience for the young lads.
"There's a few along with me, Jack Wilshere and Kieran Gibbs who've played a few times for their clubs. So with this experience it will only help us."
Everton have travelled to Australia as part of their pre-season preparations and will play three games against Sydney FC, Melbourne Heart and Brisbane Roar.
Rodwell says previous experience suggests this tour will be good for team morale ahead of the new season.
"It's good for the bonding and we also have a lot of youngsters in there which is a good thing for them to get experience with the senior pros," said Rodwell.
"We'll be getting a few games at a good quality of standard. Last year we played against the MLS All-Stars which Landon Donovan actually played in.
"So you never know, there may be another player out there in Australia as well."
