Sylvain Distin says Everton must earn a European place

Distin has played 32 games for the Blues since his move from Portsmouth

Everton defender Sylvain Distin has warned the Blues need to remain consistent if they are to secure a European place for next season.

The Blues have only been beaten twice in 18 league matches and the Frenchman hopes their form will continue.

"If we deserve it then we'll have it," the 32-year-old Frenchman told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"Mathematically it is possible and as long as there are enough games to get there, we'll try."

He added: "We feel like we have to keep our form like it is now until the end of the season."

Distin says it is no coincidence there has been an improvement in Everton's form since the side's big name players have returned from injury.

If you take 10 or 15 players out of any team even the top four, they're going to struggle

The Blues lost seven and drew three of the opening 14 league games games.

"We started the season with 10 or 15 players short due to injury," Distin said. "If you take 10 or 15 players out of any team, even the top four, they're going to struggle.

"All the players have come back one by one, so now we're a bit more consistent. We're playing alongside the same players and with the same team week-in, week-out and you can see that can help."
