Ebbsfleet United winger Ricky Shakes called up by Guyana again

Guyana have named Ebbsfleet's Ricky Shakes in their squad for two World Cup qualifiers against Trinidad and Tobago.

Shakes won his first two caps for Guyana earlier this month and scored in their 1-1 draw with Bermuda.

It means the 26-year-old winger will miss the FA Cup first round should the Fleet qualify.

Manager Liam Daish said: "I might see if I can watch the game on club expenses, but I think the only way I'd get over there is if I was playing."

He added: "I've already pledged my allegiance to Ireland so I don't think I'll get away with playing for Trinidad and Tobago.

"To leave Gravesend in November to go to Trinidad must be a real wrench for him. It's a tough life.

"The one thing I was pleased with last time was when he came back he was full of confidence. I could see there was a spark. I was a bit concerned when he ran back 40 yards to receive the ball off the keeper, that was a bit too confident, but fair play to him. It should give him another boost."

The matches take place on 11 and 15 of November.

Shakes has previously represented Trinidad and Tobago in a friendly so is in the rare position of playing an international fixture against his former nation.

Speaking after he returned from his Guyana debut he told BBC Radio Kent: "We're one point above Trinidad & Tobago and all we have got to do is win one of the two games against them.

"Then we are through to the next round into the group with Mexico, El Salvador and Costa Rica so these two games in November are very important for the country."
