Ebbsfleet boss Daish has to deal with budget cuts during a difficult summer
Former Cambridge United chairman George Rolls has blamed Ebbsfleet United for preventing manager Liam Daish from taking charge at the Abbey Stadium.
Rolls insisted they wanted Daish, but instead opted for Martin Ling when a compensation deal could not be agreed.
"On the Monday morning Liam Daish was going to be appointed as the manager of Cambridge United," said Rolls.
"In the afternoon, Ebbsfleet changed the goalposts in terms of the compensation that they wished to have."
Daish, who made 138 appearances for the U's as a player, was left seething as he did not hear of Ling's appointment until he arrived at the Abbey Stadium.
But Rolls said: "It got to a point at half past five in the evening where it wasn't going to happen for Liam.
"Unfortunately for Liam, he was on his way down because we couldn't get hold of him until he was nearly at the ground."
Ling left his post as manager after just nine days in the job, citing irreconcilable differences with Rolls.
Rolls then swiftly resigned after a board meeting last Wednesday.
Ebbsfleet are playing Cambridge at Stonebridge Road on Tuesday.
