Droylsden have been relegated from the Blue Square Premier - despite winning 2-1 at Farsley Celtic on Tuesday.
The result left the Bloods with 22 points from 41 games - 15 points from safety, with five games remaining.
But Weymouth and Altrincham - who both have 37 points and are 20th and 21st respectively - still have to play each other, on the final day of the season.
And whatever that result, at least one of those clubs will reach the 38-point mark, beyond Droylsden's reach.
Droylsden can only reach a maximum of 37 points if they win all five remaining games.
They join fellow strugglers Stafford, who were relegated on Tuesday after losing 4-0 at home to York.
In similar circumstances in 2004, Wycombe manager Tony Adams did not realise his club had already been relegated, as he believed they could stay up if they won their remaining games - but some of their relegation rivals still had to play each other.
