Stock missed the end of last season because of a back operation
Doncaster Rovers captain Brian Stock is set for a three-month lay-off after undergoing ankle surgery.
Stock, 27, who has been playing with the injury for some time, had an exploratory operation on Thursday when it was decided to fix the problem.
The Welsh midfielder is expected to be sidelined until the end of the year.
Boss Sean O'Driscoll told the Rovers website: "It's a massive blow. It was steadily getting worse and it came to a point where we had to do something."
Stock made an impressive international debut against Russia at the beginning of September, but this latest injury set-back will force him to miss Wales' two remaining 2010 World Cup qualifiers next month.
