Taylor suffers hamstring injury

Gareth Taylor
Taylor has yet to score this season

Doncaster Rovers striker Gareth Taylor could be out for three weeks after pulling his hamstring in Tuesday's 1-0 defeat against Charlton.

The 35-year-old has started all five of Rovers' Championship games this season and he told BBC Radio Sheffield the injury comes as a "big blow".

"I just felt something go in the back of my leg as I tried to get away from the right-back," Taylor said.

"The physio thinks it's a hamstring and I'll be out for a few weeks."

The injury could mean a first start for new signing Darren Byfield against his former club Bristol City on Saturday.

Rovers have now not won in their last two games, but manager Sean O'Driscoll is confident that is a minor blip and the results do not reflect the way his side have played.

"As a team we function really well, at times almost too well and although teams don't come to defend against us but we forced them to," he said.

"We did everything other than put the ball in the back of the net, they are a class above what we are used to."
