Doncaster Rovers midfielder Richie Wellens will be out for at least a month as he needs surgery to remove scar tissue from his groin.
The former Manchester United youngster had a hernia operation in the summer, but has been hampered in recent weeks.
Rovers manager Sean O'Driscoll has told BBC Radio Sheffield that there was no option but to have the procedure.
"His groin didn't respond to treatment and so he'll have surgery next week," said O'Driscoll.
