Derby renew interest in Notts County's Ben Davies

Derby County have renewed their pursuit of Notts County midfielder Ben Davies, BBC Sport understands.

Rams manager Nigel Clough admitted his interest in the 29-year-old before the start of the season and is believed to have returned with a £250,000 bid.

Davies could end up replacing skipper Robbie Savage, who looks set to quit Pride Park to end his career with Major League Soccer side Vancouver Whitecaps.

Davies joined Notts from Shrewsbury on a three-year contract in July 2009.

He was a key figure in helping the Magpies win promotion from League Two last season and the Meadow Lane club were reluctant to sell a player seen as one of their prize assets.

Davies has 18 months to run on his current deal but with money still tight after two years of financial uncertainty Notts may be tempted to cash in.

Derby chief executive Tom Glick has said the Rams are looking to strengthen in the January transfer window but has not revealed any of their targets.
