Kris Commons fit to make Derby County return

Kris Commons' career tally now stands at 64 goals from 293 games

Derby County top scorer Kris Commons is fit to return for Saturday's home game against promotion rivals Norwich as the Rams chase a seventh straight home win.

Commons, who has hit 10 goals to help Nigel Clough's men rise to fourth in the Championship, missed Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Burnley though illness.

But, after missing his first game of the season, Commons, 27, was fit to return to full training on Tuesday.

And he is expected to be restored to the Rams' side for Norwich's visit.

"I was bitterly disappointed to be unwell and miss Burnley," the former Stoke City and Nottingham Forest man told the Rams' club website. "It was not nice sitting on the sofa watching.

"I would have loved to have been involved, especially as the game was live on TV.

"I first felt ill late on Friday afternoon, and at first I thought maybe if I ate something I would be all right and things would settle down.

"In fact, it got worse and, by then, I knew I wasn't going to be available to play. By the early evening I was throwing up right the way through until the very early hours, every hour."

Derby go into Saturday's game in level with Norwich, who are just a place behind, both clubs being just six points off the automatic places.

Since losing 1-0 at home to Sheffield United in mid-September, the Rams have been in imperious form at Pride Park, stringing together six straight league wins, while hitting 20 goals in the process.
