Rams youth team product Addison is an England Under-21 international
Derby County manager Nigel Clough says centre-half Miles Addison is making excellent progress after nine months out with a foot injury.
Clough had hoped to give Addison, 21, a brief run-out in Tuesday's reserve game against Sheffield Wednesday on Monday.
But Clough told BBC Radio Derby. "He trained on Monday and felt a little bit sore so we will not risk him.
"He's been brilliant; he's way ahead of schedule and has worked as hard as any player we have seen in rehabilitation."
Addison, who has a stress fracture, only started 12 games last season and has not played since mid-January.
The surgeon told him that he could be out for up to 12 months so to be back training before Christmas is a big boost for him

Clough added: "That's why we don't want to rush him; the last thing he wants is a big setback so he will take his time and probably train every other day with a view to being involved next week or the week after in a reserve game.
"In his mind, when he had the operation, this season was probably written off.
"The surgeon told him that he could be out for up to 12 months so to be back training before Christmas is a big boost for him. That's why we don't want to do anything rash at this stage."
