Derby County midfielder Ryan Connolly is set to be ruled out for six months with a cruciate knee ligament injury.
The Republic of Ireland youth international, who signed professional terms in the summer, was hurt during a Rams Under-18s pre-season friendly.
He will see a consultant next week with a view to having surgery in September.
Manager Nigel Clough told the club website: "It's a blow for Ryan, we're really disappointed. He has our unreserved support."
