Pearson has played 42 games for the Rams this season

Derby County midfielder Stephen Pearson will miss the start of next season after suffering a knee injury which will keep him out for four months.

Pearson will have surgery on Thursday and will miss the final game of the season against Cardiff on Sunday.

Manager Nigel Clough told the club website: "He will not be available for pre-season and the first month or six weeks of the next season.

"It is a blow for Stephen but something that needs to be done."

Pearson, 27, has been plagued by injuries during his Rams career but has enjoyed a long run in the side this campaign, starting 34 league matches and appearing in 42 games in total.
