Derby County sign Sunderland defender Russell Anderson
Anderson has been capped 11 times for Scotland
Derby County have signed defender Russell Anderson from Sunderland on a free transfer.
The 31-year-old Scotland international has agreed a contract until the end of the season after having his Stadium of Light deal cancelled by mutual consent.
Anderson played over 300 times for Aberdeen and has had loan spells and Plymouth Argyle and Burnley.
"He is the type of character we are looking to add to the squad," Rams boss Nigel Clough told the club's website.
"Russell is an excellent defender who brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience.
It might take Russell a couple of weeks to get up to full speed, but we need a fresh face in central defence
Nigel Clough
"He played in the Championship last season for Burnley, so he knows what it takes to compete in this division.
"With Dean Leacock and Miles Addison both carrying injuries it is important to bring in some cover and boost our numbers.
"It might take Russell a couple of weeks to get up to full speed, but we need a fresh face in central defence and we believe Russell has the qualities and courage to step up to the mark if we ask him to."
Anderson is available for selection and could make his debut against Peterborough on Saturday.
