Savage joined Derby from Blackburn in January 2008

Lebanese club Al Ansar have denied reports that Derby County midfielder Robbie Savage is about to join them.

The 34-year-old was linked to the Beirut-based side after details of a trip to the Middle East emerged.

Al Ansar boss Builal Farraj said: "We invited him to come to Beirut and to visit the team just like we previously did with other football stars.

"We have asked him to come and visit the team and check the level of Lebanese football."

Farraj added: "We have previously invited South Africa's former skipper Pierre Isa and he came to Lebanon and watched one of our matches.

"It's only a social activity that we do and it is one of our programmes."

Savage spent last month on loan to Brighton but has returned to the East Midlands because of a shin injury.
