Darlington have released former Northern Ireland international winger Keith Gillespie after three games at the Blue Square Bet Premier club.
Gillespie, 35, joined the Quakers after he was released by Irish side Glentoran at the end of last season.
"Keith came to us when he wasn't really fit and we've had games called off," boss Mark Cooper told the club website.
"We haven't got time to get people fit, we need people that can go straight into the team and improve us."
Cooper added: "If I can put that money towards a striker that can get us ten goals before the end of the season or someone who can create goals then that's what I'd rather do."
