Todd oversaw his side's 2-1 defeat of Blyth on Monday
Darlington manager Colin Todd is hoping to make the most of the club's local links in his search for new players ahead of August's season opener.
Todd has been forced to blood a host of youngsters alongside a core of senior professionals and is continuing his search for further additions.
"I need to get loan players in," he told BBC Tees.
"But we can't do that until the likes of Sunderland and Middlesbrough can give us the help we need."
Todd has been satisfied with his side's pre-season campaign so far, with the latest outing being Monday's 2-1 defeat of Blyth Spartans.
With a pick and mix squad of experienced professionals and academy hopefuls at his disposal, Todd is keen for his senior players to guide a young squad during the coming season.
"It's only been a week since we've been back," he said.
"I look at Gary Smith, Chris Lumsdon and Ian Miller to regroup the young boys.
"I learned a lot about the youngsters and I've learned a lot about my senior players."
