Windass played in League One for Oldham during a loan spell last season

Dean Windass has ended speculation surrounding his future by signing for Darlington on a player-coach basis following his release by Hull City.

The 40-year-old teams up with manager Colin Todd, whom he played for during his second spell with Bradford before joining Hull for £150,000 in June 2007.

Windass had previously been linked to a string of vacancies, most recently one at League Two side Port Vale.

Darlington becomes Windass's 10th club during his 19-year-career.

Hull have had a major clear-out this summer, with striker Michael Bridges one of eight players released.

Versatile forward Windass joined his hometown club in 1991 from North Ferriby and went on to play in the top divisions in England and Scotland with Aberdeen, Bradford and Middlesbrough.

After returning to Hull he was an integral part of the side that won promotion to the top tier in 2007-08, scoring the winner in the Championship play-off final at Wembley against Bristol City.

However the former Oxford United man found himself out of favour last season and moved on loan to League One side Oldham Athletic but failed to earn a permanent deal.
