Foster reveals Quakers hardships

Darlington captain Steve Foster has admitted the arrival of manager Colin Todd was a key factor in persuading him to remain at the Arena this season.

Under the terms of the Quakers' administration, Foster was free to find a new club but said Todd's enthusiasm helped sway his decision.

"When someone speaks to you of his calibre you're going to be interested," he told BBC Tees.

"He knows so many people in football which holds us in good stead."

Foster's decision is an admirable one, given the club's financial issues.

Players have not been paid their usual salaries since the club were placed into administration in February, with just a month and 10% of a month's salary paid into the players' bank accounts in nearly four-and-a-half months.

But Foster said the Professional Footballers Association, as well as friends and family have been great in helping him and the other players through the difficult time.

"Financially it's been very tough and frustrating, you're constantly asking questions," he said.

"It's been very tough, it still is a little bit now but you can see things are taking a step forward.

"We've had very little money come in, not seen a great deal in the last six months, but you manage to get by, and I'll no doubt be ringing my mum and dad up to get a bit of help every now and again."
