Clarke best yet to come - Penney

Billy Clarke has a month to impress at the Arena

Darlington boss Dave Penney feels fans are yet to see the best of striker Billy Clarke, despite a promising debut in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Exeter.

Penney believes the 20-year-old, who joined up with the club from Ipswich Town on Friday, can further impress during his loan spell.

"He's a striker and he wants to score," Penney told BBC Tees.

"If he gets half a yard he'll have a shot on goal. He's a good footballer and we're delighted to have him."

Clarke will be with Darlington for a month. But, with last season's talisman Tommy Wright now having moved to Aberdeen, Penney envisages changes across the side.

"We didn't get Billy Clarke in the game enough in the second half," said Penney. "And we have to be more patient.

"We haven't got Tommy Wright any more so we can't just lump the ball from deep, which I'm glad about.

"Hopefully that will make us play more football."
