Benson pleased with recuperation

Benson is the fourth highest goal-scorer in League Two

Dagenham & Redbridge's leading scorer Paul Benson has said his recovery from a knee injury is progressing well.

The 28-year-old striker, who has hit 13 goals in League Two this season, has been out for a month following an operation on a knee problem.

He told BBC Essex: "It's getting stronger every day and the forecast is good and hopefully I'll be back training in two to three weeks.

"I thought it might be longer, but the prognosis is good at the moment."

News of Benson's recovery will be welcomed by the Daggers, who are struggling for goals in their push for the play-offs and have failed to win in their last five games.

Despite their current run of form, Benson said he had confidence in those who were deputising for him.

"It's not easy playing centre-forward, so whoever comes in is not going to find it easy," he said.

"We just need to get our season back on track and start scoring again and hopefully that will push us back into the play-off places."
