Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock has made his first signing of the summer by luring Paddy McCarthy away from Charlton Athletic.

The central defender has joined Palace for an undisclosed fee.

McCarthy started his career with Manchester City before moving to Leicester and then onto Charlton for �650,000 in 2006.

The 23-year-old made 33 appearances for at The Valley last season including both games against Palace.
