Crewe boss Dario Gradi slams Danny Shelley critics
Danny Shelley has been a regular starter for Crewe in recent weeks
Crewe manager Dario Gradi has hit out at a section of supporters who booed young defender Danny Shelley during his side's 1-1 draw with Lincoln.
Shelley, 20, was substituted during the draw which all but ended any lingering promotion hopes for the Alex, and was jeered as he left the field.
"That's society these days, it's very selfish," Gradi told BBC Radio Stoke.
"He was having a hard time but he was trying his best, if that wasn't good enough on the day so be it."
Gradi also promised to stick by the player, who has been started regularly for the Alex in recent matches.
"To be fair when Danny came off he got boos but he got some accolades as well, there were some fair-minded people there," said the 69-year-old. "He's got ability and we'll continue to work with him."
Crewe are 13th in League Two, nine points off a play-off place with four games left to play.
