Crewe Alexandra's Carl Martin considered playing future
Martin has made only one first-team appearance since signing
Crewe Alexandra full-back Carl Martin has admitted long-term injury problems left him pondering his own future.
The 24-year-old, who joined from Wealdstone in October 2009, has made just six appearances in two seasons.
"There was a point where I questioned myself but it didn't take long to know that this is what I grew up trying to do," Martin told BBC Radio Stoke.
"Injuries have set me back but I am back and I have to try and repay the faith everyone has shown in me."
He added: "I have a massive 12 months in front of me and it really will determine my career."
Martin was Dario Gradi's first signing when he returned as manager in 2009 and joined the Alex on a two-and-a-half year contract.
He originally had a trial at the club that summer, but then manager Gudjon Thordarson elected to let him go.
Martin then trained with Southend United and Dagenham & Redbridge and was close to signing for the Daggers until Gradi renewed Crewe's interest in the 24-year-old.
