Danny Shelley eyes Crewe Alexandra run

Danny Shelley
Shelley is still to be offered a new contract at Gresty Road

Crewe midfielder Danny Shelley hopes to reignite his career on the back of a goalscoring performance against Stockport County.

Injury had limited Shelley to 38 minutes of first-team football this season before Saturday.

The 20-year-old, whose current Crewe deal runs out in the summer, scored a 35-yard free-kick.

He told BBC Radio Stoke: "I always knew I would get another chance and now I hope to keep my place in the team."

Boss Dario Gradi, who gave academy product Shelley his debut in 2008, said: "He has looked good training and the trick is to reproduce that in games which I know is not easy.

"His career has stood still and that's not all down to him its because the players around him have done well.

"I thought he was outstanding and easily our best player at Stockport which was capped by a fine free-kick which I know he is good at."
