Dropped points frustrate Port Vale's Marc Richards
Richards is Vale's top scorer this season with 10 league goals
Port Vale striker Marc Richards says his side have dropped too many points against clubs struggling near the foot of League Two.
Vale have failed to win five times when playing teams currently occupying places in the bottom half of the table.
Saturday's surprise 1-0 defeat at 19th-placed Morecambe saw the Vale knocked off top spot by Chesterfield.
"We need to be more prepared for the teams that are near the bottom of the league," Richards told BBC Radio Stoke.
"They're looking up at us and seeing us first or second in the league and they're grinding it out.
"If we're going to get promoted this year Morecambe is the sort of place we have to go to and get a result.
"We've got big games coming up from which we need to take maximum points just to keep in the running with the top teams, December's a massive month for us."
